Kunming
Over 250,000 years ago, there were ancient humans living in Yunnan. Since the 13th Century, Kunming has become the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan Province. Lying on the South Silk Road connecting the interior areas of China and Southeast Asia, it is the passageway linking Sichuan, Yunnan and Vietnam. Kunming is the hometown of the famous navigator Zheng He and the people's musician Nie Er, and the democratic campaigns such as "The Campaign to Defend the Republic" and "December 1st Campaign" contributed a lot to the democratic revolution of China. Time-honored history and diverse culture give rise to Kunming’s obvious features of “long history and many relics, picturesque landscapes and many resorts, diverse culture and many celebrities, and early development and many communications”.
